An Eco-Friendly 2015

The year just started and already we’ve been receiving some scary news from climate scientists. Climate change, or global warming if you’d prefer, isn’t on the decline, despite many loaded right-wing reports to the contrary. It’s still a very real thing, and a very scary problem. And until the world gets around to changing, it’s up to individuals to change their personal lifestyles. Here are a few changes you can make in your home to help the environment this year.

First up, stop washing your clothes in warm or hot water. By making a simple change and washing in cold water, you’re saving thousands of kilowatts of energy a year. Not only does this help the planet, but it also helps your wallet!

Another easy investment you can make is to unplug appliances that aren’t in use. Plugged in appliances, even when off, are operating on standby power and are thus drawing electricity. Unplugging them, or getting a surge protector that shuts off completely, will help to save a ton of energy.

These small changes are just two of thousands you can make in your personal life to help the planet this year.
